Brandi is a superhero that works 12 and 16 hour shifts as a nurse at two area hospitals.  Hippocrates said that the goal of medicine is “to cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.”.  Working in remote Cameroon as a Peace Corps volunteer, Brandi knew she wanted to become a nurse to provide relief and comfort to others.  She selflessly leaves each morning long before her husband and toddler are awake, to drive an hour to work, returning home late at night, because she is bravely working with Covid-19 and other very sick patients. To protect her family, she showers and changes clothes outside before even coming in the house.  She gives freely of her time and energies, but with two jobs, a young family and a husband who works and is a full-time student, time is a precious commodity. 1500 miles from her family, with house, car and child care expenses, priorities must be juggled, and choices made.  Despite knowing that a new roof will make the house cozier and more airtight and decrease utility bills, her thoughts are with her patients and family, not replacing an aging roof.  This would be such a welcome tribute to the hard work and sacrifice of a first responder focused on everyone else’s needs, safety and comfort.
